Obviously, for those with built-in DVR capabilities in their current cable or satellite boxes, this is a superfluous feature, so if game capture is all you care about then the Gaming Edition is still your best choice. While the new Model 1512 supports and records video from all your favorite gaming devices, it now adds features targeted for home media users who want to use this device (and a connected PC) as a DVR to record broadcast TV. I would have to look deeper to find the true differences. There's a BlastCfg.exe from WinTV and I tried to let it automatically scan for the right codeset, tried to choose my cableco from the presets list as well as several similar boxes, let it learn the IR codes from my remote (which, by the way, would fail regularly and would often cause the BlastCfg program to crash).

I should preface this by saying that I've spent about 3 hours trying to get my HD PVR 2 to change the channels of my Cisco 4642 box (which uses IR).
